Situated along historic Market Street, this urban hotel tower proposes introducing public open space on a roof-level terrace. As part of the city’s POPOS (Privately Owned Public Open Space) program, the roof garden will be open to the public during the day and utilized by the hotel bar in the evenings.
The terrace is informed by the narrow trapezoidal shape of the lot, positioning a perched platform at the corner to take advantage of the stunning views toward the Embarcadero and the Bay beyond. The streetscape respects the tree alignments and brick paving of the historic context, while proposing enhancements below the paving to improve growing conditions for new trees.
