The February issue of Landscape Architecture Magazine features dwg.'s Operations and Maintenance work on Republic Square in downtown Austin, Texas. Who's Around Underground by Zach Mortice takes a deeper dive into the tools dwg. uses for monitoring soil health, and provides a great benefit to park and landscape maintenance.
Republic Square is a 1.9-acre city-block sized oasis in downtown Austin. Dating back to 1888, it is one of four historically significant squares that functioned as the city’s original gathering places. In 2015, a significant renovation led by a public-private partnership of the Downtown Austin Alliance, Austin Parks Foundation, and the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department was undertaken. Since the completion of the Design Workshop master plan, dwg. has led the process of researching and developing a GIS Operations and Maintenance strategy and report that guides the ongoing success of this extensively used public open space.
