Hyatt Centric
AUSTIN, TEXAS
Located on Congress Avenue just blocks from the Texas State Capitol, the patio and streetscape at Hyatt Centric embrace a pedestrian- and bike-friendly mentality. The hotel was the first in the city to not host any on-site parking, instead emphasizing other modes of transportation. The ride-share and valet drop-off is situated on the side street, allowing for the streetscape along Congress to promote pedestrian, rather than vehicular, use.
The corner plaza activates the public realm by carving out a patio space for outdoor dining associated with the ground-floor restaurant. A long, custom wood bench built with a green wall back creates comfortable seating for diners, while adding to the visual interest of the streetscape for passers-by. Custom bike racks line the sidewalk, and the diverse plant palette adds distinct character and energy to the human experience of the street.
