Waterloo Park

AUSTIN, TEXAS

Representing Austin’s largest economic investment in parkland in generations, the 11-acre Waterloo Park is the flagship open space along the revitalized Waller Creek corridor. With dwg. serving as the local landscape architect, the design team led by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc shaped the vision for transforming a blighted urban creek into a world-class open space.

Waterloo Park emphasizes the importance of urban ecology in shaping a continually growing city. Its remarkable story of transformation highlights the power of parks and open space to be a catalyst for economic revitalization as well as social and environmental change in the public realm. The park represents a new vision for equitable urban park space by enhancing multimodal connectivity, promoting community, and activating open space through art, educational and cultural programming, and nature play.
