Fernando Turpin

DESIGNER

A rather circuitous route to landscape architecture, Fernando spent time after college working in finance in NYC before moving back to the southeast to realize his true passion was in the built environment. Prior to dwg., Fernando began his landscape career in Chicago after receiving his Master of Landscape Architecture degree from the other UT (Go Vols).

Originally from Honduras, Fernando grew up in the plateaus of northern Alabama. The lack of metropolis growing up fostered an appreciation for the amenities of the outside world. His love for landscape and design is influenced by childhood memories at the local park and the humidity of the southeast. The calm moments of the natural and built landscapes drive his design sensibility. Understanding those moments can be seen through avenues of experiential design and writing within the context of changing environments. His hope is to create connections to these environments where one can calmly reflect in and upon.

Fernando enjoys moonlighting as a land artist, always looking to express his love for the landscape through new mediums and different scales. Additionally, he hopes to bridge his love for making music with his passion for land art. He is excited to be back in the heat and excited for more windows-down, night drives around Austin while probably blasting The Strokes.
